What you get without a subscription
ScanMyCar: stored, pending and permanent trouble codes from every module, clearing codes, live sensors, drive logging, the emissions readiness monitors and alerts. Pro adds the AI features and extras such as HUD mode, Mode 06 tests and CSV export (terms).
FIXD: reading and clearing codes, plain-language explanations and maintenance reminders, as reported in 2021 (MOTOR). Premium adds a certified mechanic hotline, repair cost estimates, "confirmed fix", Issue Forecast, Emissions Pre-Check, vehicle history and incident reports, and monitoring of several cars (fixd.com).
The AI mechanic
Both apps now have one. FIXD's AI Mechanic was in the app by October 2023, and its 2026 updates added voice calls with live transcripts and an "AI Mechanic Hotline" with photo support (App Store). FIXD Premium also has a phone line to human mechanics, which ScanMyCar does not have. Obie, ScanMyCar's AI mechanic, reads your car's codes and live sensors, explains them in plain words, checks your whole car and answers your questions. Obie is part of ScanMyCar Pro.
How the subscription starts and ends
FIXD's checkout adds a Premium trial to the sensor order, with the line "free for 14 days then $99/year - cancel anytime!" (FIXD checkout). The trial length differs between FIXD's pages: one week in the fixd.com buy box, 14 days on the landing page (fixd.com, FIXD landing page). The Better Business Bureau rates FIXD Automotive, Inc. a C, not accredited, with 546 complaints in the last 3 years (BBB); 109 of them are about billing (BBB complaints).
A ScanMyCar scanner order is paid once and holds no subscription. Pro is bought in the app through your App Store account, and you cancel it in your App Store subscription settings (terms).
Track record
FIXD was founded in 2014 and has 25,880 App Store ratings averaging 4.61 (MOTOR, iTunes Lookup). ScanMyCar is newer: the scanner is on preorder now.
